Jason at Broadway Recovery Services in Youngstown, Ohio

"It’s been a blessing and absolute pleasure to work with you and the team at Youngstown Blue Coats. You provide wonderful examples of positive children of God for our residents to aspire to become. They return after volunteering with pride in helping with your mission and a smile. Your gracious yearly donations of coats, boots, and gloves to our residents’ in need is greatly appreciated. I feel our programs compliment each other in sharing His Love. I am proud to call you my friend! Please keep going and growing!"

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley

"The Youngstown Blue Coats organization has been nothing short of a miracle for those who need it most throughout the Valley.  Patty and her team are dedicated to their mission of keeping guests warm through the brutal Ohio winters. For many years the Youngstown Blue Coats have graciously partnered with both of the non-profits I have personally worked for and I have seen the direct impact they have on each individual. I know I can count on their team to park the bus outside and the guests we serve will get exactly what they need including hats/gloves/boots/ and winter gear to keep them going.

Donors monies and physical donations are in good hands with Youngstown Blue Coats and will positively go directly back to the most vulnerable population in the community. I give this charity and the people who run it a 5-star rating, no doubt about it.

It has been an absolute pleasure partnering with the Youngstown Blue Coats and I look forward to the future of working with them as well."

Properly-sized, sturdy boots given to those in need before leaving the YBC

Images of three special individuals spring immediately to mind because of their shoes. These three people (one in Youngstown; one in Pittsburgh; one in Akron) had shoes that literally were falling off their feet. Their shoes were worn beyond utility; too many holes, soles separated from the shoe. These shoes were useless. We took these shoes from their wearers and had them put on new shoes before leaving the YBC bus site.

We gave them each, as we do with all individuals to whom we distribute warming items, new socks as well (two pairs). There was snow everywhere and, due to the new shoes and socks, these people finally had a chance to get warm.

During this past season, we noticed that the faces, especially the eyes, of those with whom we interacted during our distributions and other events, were sadder and stressed than in previous seasons. Faces were masked, of course, but nonetheless, this sadness and despair were clearly visible and tangible. For these three ‘newly-shoed’ individuals, their faces now reflected less sadness; they looked happier (and warmer!).  They now had hope.
